This week, India has a hydrogen plant running on heat from a nuclear reactor. Two yacht builders are solving the same hydrogen storage problem in completely different ways. And a Chinese train manufacturer unveiled a new hydrogen train platform built for some of the toughest freight corridors on Earth.

Before we get to the news, here's a quick update on our own progress. Our ThermoLoop engineering test unit is under construction and we're working with NuCube Energy to evaluate using heat from their next generation nuclear reactor to power ThermoLoop and lower the cost of producing clean hydrogen. First up, India is running a hydrogen power plant powered entirely by heat from a nuclear reactor built at a national research center developing a copper chlorine production process. It's a serious milestone for a country with enormous energy demand but limited domestic fuel supply.
But the process still includes an electrolysis step using an electrolyzer, the same decades-old expensive technology that's kept hydrogen costs high everywhere else. Even a government-funded flagship program hasn't found a way around the cost driver that's held clean hydrogen back for decades.
Next, two yacht builders are tackling the same challenge and came up with two clever, completely different answers. The question: how do you get hydrogen fuel cell power into a boat?
Feed Ships Project 821, a 118-meter super yacht, stores liquid hydrogen directly on board. San Lorenzo, the parent company behind Blue Game, skipped storing hydrogen altogether on its 50 Steel, carrying green methanol instead and reforming it into hydrogen on demand right before it reaches the fuel cell in a system built with Siemens Energy.
Two different engineering paths, same destination — a boat running on clean hydrogen power. That kind of creative problem solving is exactly why we're optimistic about where this industry is headed.
And no matter which storage approach wins out, every one of these systems still needs an affordable supply of clean hydrogen to run on, which is exactly what ThermoLoop is being designed to do.
Last story for today, a major Chinese rail manufacturer has unveiled a new hydrogen train platform running on hydrogen, battery power, or a combination of both targeted at freight corridors across Central Asia.
Rail is still one of the strongest practical fits for hydrogen. Long routes, centralized fueling, and no need to electrify every mile of track.
From a national reactor to a yacht's engine room, everyone chasing hydrogen is still wrestling with the same question: how do you make it cheap?
